Treating Nerve Pain
July 23rd, 2016 8:09 am

Although pinched nerves are quite common, they can also be very painful, and many don’t seek the care they should to deal with the problem. Plain and simple – a pinched nerve is a signal that something is wrong. This can be caused by poor posture, sitting for extended periods of time, lifting heavy objects, or just moving in an awkward way. Too often, patients just deal with the pain and wait for it to go away on its own, and too often, this leads to more severe issues down the road. However, that doesn’t have to be the case.

First, it’s important to understand that treating symptoms when they start is critical in preventing chronic issues from developing down the road. Nerve pain can lead to nerve damage. Once the damage is done, treatment options start to narrow. In many cases, this leads to surgery, which can be painful, and far too often, ineffective. That’s why with chiropractic care we aim to treat the problem – and not just treat the symptoms. Even in mainstream medicine, the strategy is typically to manage the pain with medication, not actually addressing the underlying cause.

This is where chiropractic care takes a different approach. We want to address the underlying issues at hand. Again, a pinched nerve is a signal that something isn’t right, and our completely safe, non-invasive techniques work to address the cause of the pinched nerve, and prevent long term health issues down the road. Treatment options vary from patient to patient and can include massage techniques, changes in nutrition, decompression techniques, and personalized exercise routines.
